Whitchurch (Hants) Cricket Club

On Thursday 16th July, Whitchurch Cricket Club (WCC) hosted a welcome return to recreational cricket with the inaugural Rainbow Cup match against the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Cricket Team.

The main event was preceded by a practice match conducted by the new Whitchurch Wolverines under 9s cricket team.

Batting first in an 18 over match. Hampshire Hospitals scored a very respectable 126.

This was chased down by a strong Whitchurch line up with 3 overs to go. The match was enjoyed by around 100 socially distanced spectators. who along with the Whitchurch players raised £448 for the local NHS charity.

Martyn Dancer Club Captain commented: "We feel honoured to be hosting our local NHS heroes for the inaugural Rainbow Cup match.

These have been strange times for everyone and it was great to come together over cricket for a dose of something more normal.

It has been an opportunity for us to recognise the amazing work and contribution of the NHS over recent months and we hope that this will become an annual fixture
