Ways you can help your community

Inspiring story

We bring people together to natter

I work for a community wellbeing and outreach service called Your Space. We develop wellbeing activities with communities in South and East Leeds, with focus sessions on weekday evenings and at weekends.

Chocolate Chat and Chill

Our team set up Chocolate Chat and Chill socials as a fun and informal way to meet people and bring neighbours together. It can be hard to find things to do in the evening that are cheap or free so we're trying to fill that gap.

Our Chocolate Chat and Chills are free spaces where we natter as we share food, play games and try craft activities. There's no pressure to join in everything so people can take part at a level they feel comfortable with.

We hope it's a space that allows people to feel more connected. If nothing else we always share a few laughs at St Matthew’s, which I think is good for the soul!

Listening is what it’s all about

My top tip for others trying to do good in their communities? I think the best thing to do is listen to people. Have a chat about your ideas and what things they want to do or see in the neighbourhood. Then try things out together and ask for feedback.
