Supporting breast cancer members

Last updated: 22 June, 2020

Breast Mates is a breast cancer support group based in Prescot, Knowsley. Due to Covid 19 we had to find ways of offering support to our members, most of whom are shielding.

We arranged volunteers to make regular contact by phone and we have sent monthly cards, messages and gifts to our members. We set up meetings via Zoom including general support, secondary cancer support, yoga, pilates, meditation and dance sessions.

Our volunteers have been trained to help members access Zoom and Breast Mates have bought tablets for those who do not have one and have been able to provide more with your generous grant.

This work has made a massive difference to the health and wellbeing of our members. It’s such a worrying time for people with cancer, especially those on treatments whose immune system is low.

Breast Mates has enabled people to meet and talk with others, keep fit and have fun via Zoom. I would encourage everyone to get involved with organisations in your local community. Research says that volunteers live longer, happier and healthier lives. It's a win win!
