Our first initiative was “Soup and Soul”, a free weekly soup delivery for lonely, isolated, older people in Charmouth and the surrounding villages.
We delivered around 70 portions of soup and a roll each week. The soup was very much appreciated but more important was the doorstep chat, as many of the people had been alone. Our time standing on people’s doorsteps increased over the weeks, and we really got to know some of them. Once lockdown restrictions were lifted, we decided to offer “Cake and Cuppa” every 2 weeks. We created a place for people to come, relax and re-engage with village life, while enjoying a free cup of tea or coffee and homemade cake!
The numbers have steadily increased and it’s a real pleasure to hear people chatting and laughing again. The village hall is certainly buzzing.
