It was Christmas pantomime time and the Galashiels Beavers, Cubs and Scouts were having their annual trip to the Galashiels panto. Jude, our Member Pioneer is the Scout Leader in Galashiels and she often finds creative ways to link her Scouting activities with her Member Pioneer role.
This time she was talking to 1 of our causes, Café recharge in Galashiels who are an organisation aiming to reduce the gap between food poverty and food waste by using unsold food from supermarkets to serve in a Pay What You Can Cafe.
To put this into perspective, in 1 week they rescued 167 kilograms of food and fed 187 people. Café Recharge mentioned to Jude that they had received a huge amount of crisps and canned drinks that they were not going to be able to use and they would go to waste. The pantomime is the big occasion for the Scout group, and the group pay for the tickets and also for snacks. Jude was delighted to accept Café Recharge’s kind offer and so were the Scouts.
