Forest Row Community Fridge opened its doors on the 15 February 2020 with the purpose of reducing the amount of perfectly good food from going into landfill or composters.

Little did we know that a few weeks later the country would be in lockdown and thousands of people would be furloughed or lose their livelihoods.

We had to change the way we operated as well as changing our objectives so that we could feed families, older people, couples and those shielding within our community and beyond.

We quickly realised that we needed help and were so lucky to have the support from our local Co-op in Forest Row who donate food daily, but also our army of volunteers who came out every week to deliver bags of food to those in need.

Since opening our doors we’ve distributed 9,000kg of food to people needing support. With the help of Co-op, Fareshare Sussex and grant funding we’ve not only been able to ensure that they are fed but also have the cleaning, face coverings and personal hygiene they need.
