Ways you can help your community

Our mission is to help people make good things happen in communities

We’re a small team in Co-op running a series of trials to find out what encourages people to make a difference where they live.

We’re doing this so we can create products and services that make it easier for people to come together and change their communities for the better.

As a co-op we believe that more co-operation will improve communities in the UK.

Supporting communities since 1844

We’ve been making good things happen in communities for 175 years.

We’ve never been just a food retailer, a funeral director, a general insurer or a legal services business.

We give back all our profits to our members and their communities. That’s what makes us different.

On the main Co-op website you can read more about how we support communities.

And it’s not just about money. We give much more than that. But we want to do even more.

Our vision is to create the one place to go to make things happen

An online platform that will help people make good things happen in communities.

Find out more about our vision on the Co-op blog.

What we're trialling in the community

The first products we’re trialling in Trafford, Bollington and Leeds are:

  • What's happening: helps people find local events and activities that benefit them and their community

  • Find volunteers: helps organisers find volunteers for their community event, activity or group

  • ‘How to’ guides: give advice, tools and templates to help people make good things happen in their community

We want to start small so we can learn what works before we move into other areas.

The website is kept up to date by our small team in partnership with the community.

How you can get involved

  • Add an event: anyone can add an event. If you know about an event that benefits people and the community, use the Add an event form.

  • Add a volunteering opportunity: if you need people to help with your event or group and want to advertise the opportunity on our website, we can help you find volunteers

  • Use our 'How to' guides: if you’re thinking about starting your own event or want to improve what you’re already doing, look at How to organise a community event.

  • Give feedback: tell us what you think of our website so that we can keep improving it

  • Be part of our trial: email if you’re an organiser who wants to get more involved in the work we’re doing. Or if you’re interested in helping us test What’s happening in your area

This is a work in progress. Help us improve it.
